In general terms, what does your job entail?
Developing products from a script, doing edits looking into new technologies and platforms. Cutting up audio and editing graphics.
Describe the main events in a typical day
Check email to see if anything new has come up. Have a chat with my team lead to see what needs to be done. It varies a lot from working on a large product for maybe months, to short R & D projects.
Do you feel that you are using your talents in your job?
Yes, we get to do a wide range of activities.
After leaving school what were the major milestones in your career development?
Studied Multimedia Application Development and got a job with a start up company called EMG. Worked there for nearly 3 years developing e-learning products in Authorware and Flash. After a year working there I was made the company trainer training in new members of staff.
After being made redundant in April 2001 I went to work for the Pittsburgh Steelers doing video production. After 6 months I came back to Ireland and began working for Electricpaper, where I am today.
What do you like about your work?
I like the variety, I like working on new things and I get the chance to do that here.
Is there any aspect of your work that you not like?
Edits, because it means going back over the work that you have done already.
Do you have any specific advice for someone wanting to enter IT?
Be prepared for repetitive tasks.
