IT in the police and emergency services

"Emergency operator here..."

Mercifully few of us will ever hear these words, but we take it for granted that in a crisis we could summon the Guards, fire or ambulance crews. IT is used increasingly in solving crime, whether burglaries, thefts, fraud or international terrorism.
A typical police IT system can:

  • Accept large amounts of information
  • Allow queries and reports to be produced
  • Sort incidences by location, time, type or suspects involved.
A wide range of IT specialists are involved in creating and operating a police IT system.

These include business analysts and technical architects, software and database developers, system support specialists, and technical writers and trainers.
